Rev. Carol West, Pastor A
native Texan, Rev. Carol A. West is from the Metroplex. With a BA from the
University of North Texas in English and a Master of Liberal Arts from Texas
Christian University, Rev. West completed her theological studies through
Samaritan Institute of Religious Studies. Her professional background
includes almost 20 year of teaching, Executive Director of a Suicide
Hotline, and extensive work in HIV/AIDS arenas.Brought up a Methodist, West began her ministry with the Metropolitan Community Church in the capacity of student clergy. Because of outstanding work during this time, Rev. West led congregations in Waco and Denton before her licensure into the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Church. After completing her studies and licensure, Rev. West joined the staff of Cathedral of Hope in Dallas in 1990 as Associate Pastor and served until late 1996. She received her Ordination in 1993. She served most of this time as AIDS Chaplain and Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of Hope. In 1995, on loan from the Cathedral of Hope, Rev. West served a very successful term as Interim Pastor of an MCC in Florida, doubling attendance during her eight months there. Included among her accomplishments are past faculty of Samaritan Institute of Religious Studies and serving on the Board of Ordained Ministries for UFMCC. Rev. West received an award for her work in Florida from the UFMCC Board of Elders. Among other awards, she has received The Extra Mile Award and The Elizabeth Banner United Way Award. Rev.West is one of the few women to ever receive the coveted Arete Award. Reverend West assumed the role of Senior Pastor for Celebration Community Church in September of 1998. Rev. West joined a visionary congregation of 35 whose membership has grown to well over 200 during this short time. During the past year, CCC has set forth an ambitious plan to purchase their current building. As a show of good faith, Rev. West announced that she would run a 10K during her 50th year in order to raise money for the building fund. The "10K for 50K" fund has raised $67,000. Reverend West has been instrumental in the Church's involvement with several area ministries. In partnership with Broadway Baptist Church, CCC participates in Southside Area Ministries. The Church houses and staffs the food pantry for Aids Resources of Rural Texas, and also contributes to area schools and homeless shelters. For the second year, Lenten contributions have been donated to Wednesday's Child. Rev. West strongly believes that a faith community should focus on the needs and growth of their community, both inside the Church and outside its doors.
